JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio —

Family, friends and those touched by the life of 15-year-old Lee West gathered together at the Tower of Power Church in Steubenville Thursday night.

The teen died in a house fire Jan. 31, 2012.

"The love that has been shown from day one -- I mean, it's bittersweet, you know. I mean, without him being here, we think about him every day. But you know, I look back and he was here for 15 years and left a legacy behind," said his father, Elmer Martin.

West's family said they are constantly reminded of the impact Lee had on so many lives.

"This whole Ohio Valley is awesome, just remembering him and letting us know that they are thinking about us and praying for us. It's still impacting people. He was the kind of person that left an impression," said his mother, Cookie West.

After the memorial, his father shared an experience he had earlier in the day.

"I was up at the gravesite and you know it's freezing outside, there's no sun out. I had a moment at his headstone and when I went to walk away, the sun came out and there was the strongest wind. I guess it was him saying 'you know, I'm still here,'" said Martin.

West died in a fire that started in the kitchen of his father's home. West was asleep upstairs at the time.
