Company evaluates options for Mingo Junction facility

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio —

Frontier Industrial Corporation is releasing more details about possible plans for the facility in Mingo Junction.

A company official has released the names of several people who are working behind the scenes to possibly open the plant to make steel again.

"We're not making a commitment to restarting operations at Mingo now, but we're taking a really hard look at it," said Craig Slater with Frontier Industrial Corporation.

Slater admits encouragement from several former RG Steel employees pushed the company to reconsider the future of the Mingo Junction plant.

"Our company is not in the business of running a steel mill, but we do understand the steel business not quite as much as the team already in place in Mingo," said Slater. "That team's knowledge, expertise and commitment to the Mingo Junction facility really impressed us. I don't think we would be thinking about restarting operations unless we had that team and we had a great facility. It really is a great facility and great equipment. Mark Whalen was the former CFO of RG Steel and Glen Steed is technical leads and plant manager, I believe was his title, of Mingo Junction, and they bring so much expertise and knowledge to that operation.

"We have a very complex financial profile that we've been working on to see if we can really make it work," said Slater. "So we're going to give it the college try. I suspect our decision, we'll know whether we can make steel operations successful down there, we'll know within the next 60 to 90 days."

In the meantime, expect to see more and more activity at the Mingo Junction facility as Frontier continues to evaluate its options.
