Contract talks between union and Severstal scheduled for Friday

By NEWS9

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio —

A representative from United Steelworkers of America Local 1190 told NEWS9 that contract talks with Severstal, the owner of Mountain State Carbon, will begin Friday at 10 a.m.

Union representative Ernie Gambellin said the union will represent about 200 members during the negotiations with Severstal.

"It is a whole different ballgame," said Gambellin. "I think that's what makes this so sensitive and difficult. It's a lot of changes. We have people working there for upwards of 40 years'service. This is the first time they've ever had to work without a contract. There are a lot of benefits at the present time that they do not have."
