Jefferson Co. home heavily damaged by fire

By NEWS9 and Ali Myers

RAYLAND, Ohio --

The cause of a fire that heavily damaged a Jefferson County home remains under investigation.

The fire broke out in a home at 181 Church Street in Rayland around 9 p.m. Sunday.

Officials said no one was hurt and the homeowner reported the fire to 911. The home was engulfed in flames and crews from Rayland, Tiltonsville and Yorkville worked for hours to douse the flames and hot spots.

Nearby neighbor Dean Connors said, "Everyone just heard the sirens. Naturally, you just look out your window. (There was) a lot of smoke and quite a few flames coming out of the house. Luckily no one was hurt and the firemen did the best job they could."

Officials had not commented on a possible cause as of noon on Monday, but said the home appears to be destroyed.
