Crews repair minor leak that sent raw sewage into Ohio River

By NEWS9

WHEELING, W.Va. —

Wheeling city crews have repaired a minor leak that sent raw sewage into the Ohio River.

City Public Works director Rusty Jebbia said a temporary pipe's coupler broke off, causing raw sewage to seep into the river on Monday.

Jebbia said the leak was fixed and the problem was corrected on Tuesday. He said he is not sure how much raw sewage leaked into the river, but described the leak as minor.

He said the incident happened at a Warwood booster station, where a contractor was doing maintenance work on the facility.

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection is aware of the incident.
