YORKVILLE, Ohio —

A Yorkville family lost its garage and several pets in a fire early Thursday afternoon.

When crews arrived, the garage next to the home on Deep Run Road near Beach Springs Drive was fully engulfed in flame. Fire officials said a number of animals were inside kennels in the garage.

As of 4:30 p.m., it was not clear what types of animals died.

Tiltonsville and Yorkville volunteer fire departments worked to fight the fire while the Colerain Volunteer Fire Co. established a water source, allowing crews to completely douse the flames.

The owners of the garage are currently out of town, but Capt. Dana Brown of the Yorkville fire department said they have been contacted.

The Belmont County Sheriff's Office was called in to do a preliminary investigation, but ultimately the Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office will work to determine an exact cause.
