Home a total loss in Weirton fire

By NEWS9

WEIRTON, W.Va. —

Crews worked until about 7 a.m. this morning to put out the flames, but the house at 701 Carothers Road is now a total loss.

When the Oakland District Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene, half the house was completely engulfed in flames and by the time they parked the trucks, that half collapsed.

Stephanie Walker, her two-year-old daughter and her two dogs were able to make it out of the house safely, before the fire reached the side of the house they were in.

There were four total crews on scene including the Oakland District VFD, the first to respond, New Cumberland, New Manchester and Station 7 Newell. Lt. Zack Cunningham said the fire does not seem suspicious but the fire marshal plans to investigate.

Cunningham said it could take up to a few days for the fire marshal to determine a cause, especially with the building collapse.

The Red Knights Motorcycle Club and the War Dogs Motorcycle Club out of Wellsburg will help set up plans to supply the family with clothing as well as shelter.
