27 arrested in drug indictment, 2 still at large

By Philip Stahl

WETZEL COUNTY, W.Va.—

The Wetzel County grand jury returned 29 secret indictments Wednesday that led to a judge issuing arrest warrants for 29 individuals who were indicted.

Thursday afternoon, Wetzel County prosecutor Tim Haught said the arrest of 27 people came after a six-month investigation by multiple state and federal agencies.

“This indictment contained a total of 64 felony counts as a result of an investigation into the trafficking of prescription pills at the New Martinsville Villas,” said Haught.

The Villa is an apartment complex just off Route 2 in the northern part of the city.

Haught said that police were able to arrest 27 of the 29 indicted. Police were still looking for two people as of Thursday afternoon. They are Melinda Rice, a white female, and a man by the name of “D-Wall,” a black male.

Haught said with the indictments sealed, he could not release names or any further information until they’re unsealed.

He said that will happen on Tuesday in court when all who were indicted are arraigned.
