JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio --

An ongoing investigation into attacks on Amish community members in Ohio, led to federal agents raiding a Jefferson County Amish compound Wednesday morning.

At a news conference Wednesday afternoon, law enforcement said the roundup centered around Sam Mullet Sr.'s home. He along with six other Amish community members were arrested.

They are: Johnny S. Mullet, Danny S. Mullet, Lester S.  Mullet, Levi F. Miller, Eli M. Miller and Emanuel Schrock. The charges against the men are hate crime, conspiracy, aiding and abetting. Officials said the hate crimes were motivated by religious beliefs.

In recent weeks, some Amish community members came forward to law enforcement and said they were attacked and had their hair and beards cuts by other Amish community members.

Several of the members arrested Wednesday were initially arrested and charged at the county level, but those charges have been dropped so that the case could be tried at the federal level.

Officials said Wednesday that additional accusers have come forward from multiple counties. They asked that any more victims contact law enforcement.

The seven men were arraigned Wednesday afternoon in federal court in Youngstown. All of the men were finacially eligible to receive court-appointed representation except Samuel Mullet. The judge determined that Mullet would be able to hire an attorney.
