As retailers look ahead to the first few weeks of December, it probably will be important for them to keep momentum going with savings and incentives that holiday shoppers simply can't pass up.

And that's where Cyber Monday comes in -- the online equivalent to in-store Black Friday sales. On the Web, stores have been offering many shoppers savings and incentives that can be tough to pass up.

But, with so many options and online bargains, experts say people can expect just as many scams from people who want to steal personal information.

Greg Higgs, owner of Cat Technologies, said, it's safe to stick to websites you're familiar with.

"Anytime you are shopping on the Internet you have to be cautious, not fearful," Higgs said. "Companies that are more reputable you are not going to have any problems with. Companies that come in out of nowhere and want you to buy something that you're not really sure who they are, then you have to be cautious about it."

He said it's a good idea to check your bank account frequently after making any online purchase.

"Anytime after you do your online shopping … check two or three days later to make sure there is nothing on there that you didn't order," Higgs said.

Some shoppers such as Donna Price, of Mentor, said she gets e-mails from most of the retailers she frequents to see what their online deals are. Price said she only goes on websites she knows and, being a banker, she's extra-cautious about where she's spending her money.

"I have a separate account I use just for that so I don't compromise one of my major accounts. I'll just use a card for that. There are things you can do to get around it," Price said.
