GUERNSEY COUNTY, Ohio --
A Guernsey County man is accused of putting his 3-year-old child in a clothes dryer and running it as a form punishment.
Deputies arrested 40-year-old Jamial Bayly, of Cambridge, on charges of child endangerment Sunday. Bayly posted bond and was released the same day.
Sheriff Mike McCauley said he didn't think that was a stiff enough penalty and called the allegations "very disturbing."
For now, the office is dropping the misdemeanor child endangerment charge and is working to file a charge of felony domestic violence.
Officials said it's not the first time Bayly was charged with domestic violence. He was convicted on a domestic violence charge in 1999 involving an incident with his then 5-year-old child.
"Under Ohio law, if there's a prior conviction of domestic violence, then the secondary, third possible charges should probably all be a felony. In this case, we're filing that felony charge," McCauley said.
Officials did not release the location of where the most recent alleged abuse took place and McCauley said the 3-year-old child did not have any apparent injuries at the time. The sheriff said an investigation is ongoing and Guernsey County Children Services has been contacted to conduct follow-up medical exams.
