Weeks after U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia asked MTV to cancel the program, the reality television show "Buck Wild" is set to premiere tonight.

In December, Manchin sent a letter to the president of MTV asking the network to cancel the West Virginia-based reality show.

In his letter to MTV, Manchin said he show profits off of "poor decisions of our youth." The senator also said the show plays to ugly, inaccurate stereotypes about the people of West Virginia.

The network ordered 12 episodes of the show last fall, and a trailer shows the cast drinking and swearing, four-wheeling and fighting, even filling a dump truck with water and using it as a swimming pool. It was shot in Sissonville and Charleston.

Two of the cast members made their rounds this week to promote the show, appearing on Jimmy Fallon's late-night show and on Thursday morning on "The Today Show."

The two were asked what they thought about Manchin's protesting the show and they said they only represent themselves.

In December, Manchin told NEWS9 that he would rather have something that shows the positive aspects of West Virginia and its residents rather than having a show playing off the negative.

NEWS9 contacted Manchin's press office for comment on Thursday, but the senator's staff was not able to give a statement because the senator was focused on his swearing-in ceremony in Washington D.C. and wanted to focus on the positive aspects of West Virginia.
