Diesel Spill Creates Mess Along I-70

OHIO COUNTY, W. Va. —

A mail truck traveling westbound on Interstate 70 had just come down 2 mile hill when the driver heard a loud noise and then noticed his fuel gauge dropping quickly.

Officials said something likely flew up and pierced the fuel tank.

That sprung a leak that left 150 gallons of diesel on the interstate.

The Wheeling Fire Department pumped 75 gallons off of the ground into barrels, and they retained the leaking diesel by putting down floor dry and dirt on the roads surface.

Weavertown Environmental was brought to the scene for a more thorough cleanup, and tested to see if any fuel leaked underground.

Police did have to divert traffic from the right lane for a few hours, but as of 5 p.m. all lanes have been reopened.
