Shawn Johnson, 19, of Follansbee, is accused of injuring his 9-month-old daughter on Feb. 28.
In Brooke County Magistrate Court, a doctor testified the baby had a spiral fracture as a result of twisting the child's leg. Dr. Lawrence Callahan of Weirton Medical Center said it is highly unlikely a child could create enough force to cause such harm on their own.
Callahan said, in addition to the thigh bone fracture, the baby had abrasions and small bruising on her chest on both sides.
Defense attorneys questioned photographs of the baby taken the day after the alleged incident. They said the coloring of the bruises were inconsistent so soon after the alleged incident.
Callahan said the bruises raise "suspicion again of some form of abuse from grabbing the child and shaking the child."
The hearing was still going o as of 4:50 p.m. It was not known as of that time if the case will go before a grand jury.
