MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. —
Marshall County authorities are investigating after police said alcohol was a factor in an all-terrain vehicle crash that took the life of a Cameron woman.
Officials were called just after 6 p.m. Saturday to Valley Run, a rural area in the southern end of the county.
They said Casey Hill and Kayla Lilley had been riding in a side-by-side ATV when it rolled over an embankment, killing 22-year-old Lilley.
Hill, 23, of Blair Ridge, was not there when first responders arrived. Deputies learned later that West Virginia State Police arrested Hill, who was drunk.
Hill is charged with DUI causing death. Officials said he lost control of the ATV while he was driving, and both he and Lilley were thrown from the vehicle.
Chief Deputy Kevin Cecil of the Marshall County Sheriff's Office said the ATV was equipped with seat belts.
"Would it have saved her life? I don't know," Cecil said.
Hill bonded out of jail and the case is now with the Marshall County Prosecutor's Office.
