Emergency Meeting Scheduled To Discuss Damaged Jefferson County Airport Hangars

In Jefferson County, commissioners are scheduled to hold an emergency meeting Friday to discuss demolishing two airport hangars that were recently destroyed by severe weather.

According to officials, Jefferson County commissioners asked the county airport authority on Thursday to prepare plans and a time frame for tearing down two buildings at the county airport that were destroyed by high winds on April 17.

Officials said the buildings are structurally unsafe and debris from the buildings such as insulation and metal are blowing near the runways, creating a danger to airplanes in use.

According to authorities, the commissioners will need proposals from at least three contractors before work can begin.
