EPA Orders Asbestos Test From Wintersville Fire Scene

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is mandating test samples be taken from what’s left of the Clarence West Karate Studio in Jefferson County.

Sunday’s fire killed owner Clarence West and destroyed his building, including apartments above the Main Street martial arts studio.

According to EPA officials, material was being removed before it was verified if any asbestos was in the building.

Samples will now be taken from a contractor to determine if asbestos is in the building. In the meantime, the fire department has been instructed to keep the charred remains damp.
