Yorkville, OH —

NEWS9 has learned that the Esmark Steel Group's bid to buy RG Steel's Yorkville plant is pending resolution of some environmental issues at the site.

The sale was supposed to be finalized last week. After a bankruptcy court in Delaware approved the sale for more than 5 million dollars, but now both Esmark and RG Steel will likely be headed back to bankruptcy court.

USW Local 1223 President Jerry Conners says the issue stems from hazardous waste violations that happened back in 2010.

According to Conners, the Ohio EPA has an issue with the collapse of a pickler fume which happened back in 2010.

Conners says at the time RG Steel cleaned everything up that they deemed to be a danger, but now that the EPA is reviewing incident they are taking issue with how clean-up in the surrounding grounds were handled.

The state attorney general's office says they have been in contact with the bankrupt steelmaker and they are also hoping to get the issue resolved quickly.
