COLUMBIANA COUNTY, Ohio —

At least four police departments in Columbiana County are reporting counterfeit bills popping up in local businesses and banks.

In Wellsville, police Chief Joseph Scarabino said three $20 bills were identified at C.F. Bank in town. The teller spotted that all three bills had the same serial number.

"Later that day, we received a call from two local businesses that they had encountered some $10 bills that didn't look quite right," said Scarabino.

Whoever made the phony money even swiped it with a marker to make it seem like the bills had already passed through a bank or business.

"Whoever is doing it, whoever is putting it into circulation, definitely did their homework and is taking their time. The only characteristics between the determination is the swipe pen," Scarabino said.

Fake bills have been reported in St. Clair township, East Liverpool and across the river in Hancock County, W.Va.

East Liverpool police told NEWS9 on April 25, they arrested Marcus Vincent after he admitted to getting a fake bill from a drug dealer. He was charged with criminal simulation.
