Falling rock smashes car, driver hospitalized

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio —

A driver suffered minor injuries Wednesday evening after a falling rock smashed a car traveling along US 39 in East Liverpool.

The rock tumbled into traffic during the peak of evening traffic, doing heavy damage to the car.

The driver was taken to East Liverpool City Hospital for treatment of what police described as non-life threatening injuries.

The slide closed both westbound lanes of Route 39 for several hours near the bridge to Hancock County, W.Va.,and snarled evening traffic.

The rock has been pushed back off the road and one lane of travel has been restored.
