Famous Wellsburg Resturant Goes Up In Flames

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the Caruso Italian restaurant to burn to the ground. According to police, the Caruso restaurant closed up shop around 9 o'clock Thursday night. At 9:21, someone called the Wellsburg police and said the 2 story restaurant was completely engulfed in flames.

Firefighters say it took them several hours to control the blaze. Investigators say they found where the fire started, but are still working on what caused it.

Co-owner of the Caruso restaurant- Candy Caruso- says losing the business was like losing a member of the family. By standers reminisced about good food....good conversation...And great prices. Now seeing the building destroyed is still hard for many to accept.

Tracy Birmingham, a waitress at the restaurant recalls making a random stop to fix her hunger cravings. "It's sad. A lot of times, you'll say, hey lets go get something to eat!! And it's just different that it's not there anymore. "

The family does not know if this is the end of Caruso's restaurant, or if they will regroup and rebuild.

Investigators aren't sure if the cause of the fire was arson or accidental, but we'll let you know as soon as it's made available to us.
