Father Expresses Concern Over ATF Agent's Treatment In Jail

Like most fathers, James C. Sirbaugh is standing by his son even through two arrests, incarceration and criminal charges.

His son, whose name is also James Sirbaugh, is an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. The younger Sirbaugh is charged in connection with what police called a domestic dispute that led to a neighborhood lockdown.

In a phone interview from Virginia, the elder Sirbaugh said he is concerned about his son's mental health and said he needs medication he's not receiving in jail.

"All I have been told is he has to go and take the steps as ordinary people do," he said. "Well, I'm sorry to say ordinary people would only pay a fine and would not be in jail over two misdemeanors."

After the younger Sirbaugh was charged in connection with the domestic incident, officers arrested him in Belmont County, alleging he violated the terms of his bond by not heading directly home from a meeting with his lawyer.

His father said that incident was a set-up.

In the meantime, he said he's coming to Wheeling this weekend to try to see his son and grandson.

A bond hearing is expected any day in Belmont County. Stay with NEWS9 and WTOV9.com for continuing coverage as details become available.
