Feds hope to unveil cases soon thanks to Public Corruption Hotline

By Philip Stahl

WHEELING, W.Va.—

The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of West Virginia has received about 200 phone calls and emails to its Public Corruption Hotline since April.

"The response has been overwhelming, and as we said when we announced this tip line, the public was going to be our number one partner, and they certainly have been," said U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld.

Ihlenfeld said the most tips have involved corruption by public or appointed officials.

"We have a solid eight to 10 cases going on right now. We expect there to be some prosecutions announced soon," said Ihlenfeld.

Those announcements could be made sometime in October or November of this year, with more to come in 2013.

Ihlenfeld said his office has received solid tips from 22 of the district's 33 counties.

The Public Corruption Hotline is 1-855-WVA-FEDS, or email wvafeds@usdoj.gov.
