Fire that destroyed home rekindles in Belmont Co.

By NEWS9

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio —

A house fire that broke out Tuesday night in Belmont County has rekindled.

As of noon, emergency crews were at the scene of the house on Willow Grove Road just outside of St. Clairsville.

Cumberland Trail and Neffs fire departments received a call around 8 p.m. Tuesday that the house was fully engulfed in flames. The residents were inside and escaped safely with no reported injuries. A few pets died in the fire, and the house was destroyed.

Fire officials returned to the scene Wednesday morning when a hot spot rekindled.

"It's just heart-wrenching," neighbor Tammy Underwood said.

That's how Underwood describes watching her neighbor's home go up in flames Tuesday night.

Underwood said she walked outside before eight p.m. just off Willow Grove Road and saw the home burning.

"I heard the son yelling for the dad to get out of the house, the house was on fire," Underwood said.

Underwood immediately dialed 911 as her neighbors were escaping the home.  She said they lost everything.

"I've never ever experienced anyone going through a fire, and it's just heart-wrenching," Underwood said.

The cause of the blaze remains undetermined.
