Fire destroys local pizza shop

By Kate Davison and  NEWS9

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio---

Crews worked to fight a massive fire at a Powhatan Point business overnight.

Officials said a utility truck crashed into the side of Carlini's Pizza Shop in Powhatan Point Sunday around 11 p.m.

Fire chief Thomas Nelms said the truck hit the side of the building, rupturing a gas meter in the process.

Crews were able to put the initial fire out, then waited for the gas company, Old Dominion, to shut off the line.

Crews are now working to tear down what's left of the building before storms hit the area.

Two people were inside the truck when it crashed into the building. They suffered minor injuries.

No one was inside the pizza shop during the accident.

The building is being ruled a total loss.
