Fire Leaves Family Homeless

A Beallsville family is homeless after their mobile home caught fire early Tuesday.

Officials said the blaze broke out around 8:05 a.m. A father and his two daughters who lived there were not home at the time.

Crews from the Beallsville Volunteer Fire Department contained the blaze by 9:15 a.m., but the interior of the home was completely destroyed.

Officials said, just before the blaze broke out, one of the children stopped by the home with her grandmother to pick up a box of crayons.

The 11-year-old said she thought she smelled something strange, but did not recognize the smell as a fire.

Officials believe the cause may have been electrical.

Two cats died in the blaze. A neighbor was able to save one dog and two rabbits.

Donations for the family are being accepted at the C & R gas station and Big Blue Cafe in Beallsville.
