MARTINS FERRY, Ohio —

One man is behind bars and thousands of dollars in cash and other items were recovered from inside a Martins Ferry home early Wednesday morning.

Members of the Belmont County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at 1024 South Zane Highway just before 4 a.m.

Officers seized over $6,000 in cash, two laptops, drug abuse instruments, nine cell phones, two four wheeler ATVs and a 1997 Chevy Tahoe, which is also up for forfeiture.

As a result, Joseph Lamont Saunders was transported to the Belmont County Jail. Police said he's charged with two counts of drug trafficking with more charges pending.

Martins Ferry Police Chief and drug task force commander John McFarland said investigating these types of crimes is not easy with a limited budget.

"[It’s] definitely an upward battle with the funding for the drug task force. We get a very, very small amount from the state through a grant. We hope that there's a brighter future for us in 2013," McFarland said.

Officials said Saunders posted ten percent of $50,000 bond early Wednesday morning.
