BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio —

A former Bellaire water clerk pleaded guilty to various theft-related crimes on Tuesday.

Lisa Flaherty pleaded guilty to one count tampering with evidence, one count tampering with records and one count theft in office.

Flaherty indicted by a Belmont County grand jury earlier in September.

The state auditor's office was contacted in early April with information about suspected theft of utility payments. The following day, water utility information on the village of Bellaire's computer system disappeared and then-Bellaire water clerk Flaherty failed to report to work.

Flaherty was arrested in Binghamton, N.Y., after she fled from Belmont County as a fraud investigation got under way, authorities said.
