BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio —

A former Bellaire water clerk pleaded not guilty to various theft-related crimes at her arraignment in Belmont County.

Lisa Flaherty was indicted by a Belmont County grand jury earlier in September.

On Thursday, she pleaded not guilty to two counts of tampering with evidence, theft in office and tampering with records.

Judge Jennifer Sargus has been assigned to the case, and a blanket bond of $500,000 that was initially set by Judge John Vavra in Eastern Court will remain in effect.

Flaherty was arrested in Binghamton, N.Y., after she fled from Belmont County as a fraud investigation got under way, authorities said.

The state auditor's office was contacted in early April with information about suspected theft of utility payments. The following day, water utility information on the village of Bellaire's computer system disappeared and then-Bellaire water clerk Flaherty failed to report to work.
