Former Police Chief Pleads Guilty To Sex Crimes

MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. —

A former local police chief pleaded guilty on Friday to four counts of sexually-related charges against two underage victims.

Frank Dunn admitted that he carried on a sexual relationship with the two minors for a long period of time. Dunn was arrested while serving as police chief in McMechen.

According to Tim Haught, the special prosecutor on the case, the abuse dated back as far as 1980.

"It's always disappointing when someone in law enforcement breaks the law," Haught said.

"Whenever this happens, it's disappointing, it's tragic and it's really an abuse of your position and power. And that's what sex crimes really are."

Dunn is also a former Moundsville police officer.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for May. At that time, Dunn and the victims will be given the opportunity to speak in court.

Haught is recommending a 20 to 40-year prison sentence. Until then, Dunn will remain at home on bond.
