Monroe County – OHIO —

Former Jerusalem Village Treasurer Michelle Kurtz is facing two charges for theft in office and tampering with records.

The grand jury indicted Kurtz back in August 2012. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The investigation revealed more than $9,700 was unaccounted for.

According to a special audit released by Auditor of State Dave Yost, Kurtz falsified information to increase her own pay and wrote checks to her family members, then endorsed them herself.

Officials say Kurtz was the village treasurer for quite some time and missing monies were brought to the attention of the investigators by Mayor Jeff Fluharty after the incidents regarding the checking account.

Kurtz is being represented by Eric Costine and a trial date is set for March 27, 2013.
