WINTERSVILLE, Ohio —

The former police chief of Wintersville passed away this week in a Pittsburgh hospital at the age of 75.

Victor Calabrese died on Wednesday at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, according to the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home.

Calabrese was the youngest police chief in the state at the time in 1965, when he was sworn in.

He stayed with the department for 38 years before he served as police chief of Cross Creek Township. Calabrese also taught law enforcement at Jefferson Technical College.

Wintersville Chief Ed Laman described Calabrese as a disciplinarian and someone who stood by his officers.

His funeral services are scheduled to take place Saturday.
