Jefferson County, OH —

Administrators with four Jefferson County School Districts gathered for a joint forum on Monday night in an effort to educate residents and gain support for their upcoming levies.

As Nov. 6 nears, Edison Local, Buckeye Local, Indian Creek, and the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School have one thing on their mind, getting their levies passed.

But, as previous elections have shown it's not going to be easy.

All four schools are vying for something different but they all have the same goal.

"When everybody gets together it's interesting that everybody's cause is the same to help the kids," said Larry George, president of the JVS school board.

"Our goal was to share the message as to what was going to be purchased," said JVS Superintendent Dale Edwards. "To encourage those to share with others what they heard hear this evening."

During the forum inside the JVS cafeteria, Jefferson County residents sat and listened to all four levy proposals and by the end many agreed on one simple message.

"Take a look at all the boarded up buildings, the stores, steel mills. We got to support education and it has to start with our own community," said Bob Whanger.

Failures in the March election brought Edison Local, Indian Creek, and JVS together as they seek dollars for equipment, buildings, and a growing list of expenses.

"We hope our residents as well as the residents of Jefferson County who have issues understand that education is important to us and their kids," said Edison Local Superintendent Bill Beattie.

Buckeye Local was the latest edition and Superintendent Mark Miller says their request isn't unlike the rest.

"This is the first time Buckeye Local has ever put a permanent improvement levy on the ballot," said Miller.

Administrators are encouraging anyone who couldn't make the meeting to call their district for more information and to look for other forums and rallies in the future.
