Free OVAC clinic held for young wrestlers

By NEWS9

WHEELING, W.Va. —

The final day of the Ron Mauck Ohio Valley Athletic Conference wrestling tournament took place Saturday at WesBanco arena in Wheeling, and young wrestlers got the chance to train in a free clinic in the morning.

It's the 10th year running, and children from 6 to 12 years old got the chance to learn from UFC fighter and national wrestling champion Brandon Hinkle.

"The OVAC tournament is like a homecoming. Just come down and see all our old friends and old coaches. That's why the Valley is so successful at wrestling, for the fact of all the coaches just giving back and giving back," said clinic co-organizer Mike Smith.

Smith said the free clinic gives them practice, and the sport teaches young athletes ethics and character.
