Funding cuts affect prevention resource officers in Hancock County schools

By NEWS9

NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. -- Hancock County authorities found out Thursday that federal funding cuts could affect prevention resource officers in some of their schools. The cuts could affect at least two prevention resource officer positions in the schools.

"A lot of people don't realize the job they preform in there," said Hancock County Sheriff Mike White. "Besides providing security, they do a lot of mediation and a lot of interaction with the kids which promotes, I think, great citizenship."

White said he plans to meet with the county's school superintendent and the police department in Weirton to discuss possible funding options that would keep the prevention resource officers in the schools.
