Funeral arrangements made for former Diocese of Steubenville bishop

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio —

Funeral arrangements have been made for former Roman Catholic Diocese of Steubenville Bishop Emeritus Albert H. Ottenweller.

Ottenweller was the second bishop of the diocese and served from 1977 to 1992.

He died early Sunday in Toledo at age 96 after suffering from a brief illness.

Ottenweller's body will arrive in Steubenville on Thursday afternoon. Current Diocese of Steubenville Bishop Jeffrey Monforton will receive Ottenweller's body at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Name Cathedral, where Ottenweller's body will lie in repose until 7 p.m. Thursday.

The cathedral will remain open to the public until 8:30 p.m. Thursday. It will reopen to the public at 9 a.m. Friday, and Ottenweller's body will lie in repose until a funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
