Gas prices creep near $4 per gallon in W.Va., Ohio

By The Associated Press

Fuel prices are inching up to the $4-a-gallon mark in West Virginia and Ohio.

In Ohio, the state average is about 16 cents more than two days ago, and 18 cents more than this time last month.

The weekly Fuel Gauge report issued by AAA says the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the West Virginia is now $3.90, up more than 1 penny from a week ago.

The auto club said gas prices in West Virginia range from a high of $3.93 in Clarksburg to a low of $3.88 in several localities, including Morgantown.

Ohio's average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.92 in Wednesday's survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express. At some stations around Ohio, it's nearing $4 per gallon.

The Associated Press reports that, among the reasons for the increase, are disruptions caused by Hurricane Isaac and continuing problems at Midwestern refineries.

Nationally, the average is about $3.86. A year ago it was about $3.65.
