BRIDGEPORT – St. Joseph Central Grade School in Bridgeport is working with the community to do three service projects to help Belmont County stay green.

Students have collected newspapers, cardboard and other types of paper for the past few years in the annual paper drive.

They have a drop-off site with three recycle bins behind the school. Paper also is collected in the school and placed in the bins.

The second project involves collecting pop tabs that are sent to Ronald McDonald House in Columbus. The tabs are sent for recycling and the money raised is donated to the Ronald McDonald House.

Almost four 55-gallon barrels of tabs have been collected by the students over the last six years.

The third project involves collecting plastic bottles. Now in its second year of collecting plastics, the school collected the most plastics in the county and received a $1,000 prize from Wal-Mart/Sam's Club and placed 41st nationally.
