Harmony House raises money for abused children, Tomblin shows support

By NEWS9

WHEELING, W.Va. —

A local non-profit organization held its largest fundraiser of the year Saturday night in Wheeling with Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, D-W.Va., at the Harmony House to show his support.

The Harmony House, a children's advocacy center, serves Ohio and Marshall counties in West Virginia and also Belmont County, Ohio. The ninth annual fundraiser included food, wine tasting and a silent auction. Tomblin stopped by to discuss why similar organizations are so important to the children they protect.

"When you have abused or neglected children, we've got to have them some place, and the Harmony House is one of many of these types of programs around the state," said Tomblin. "But we've got to have a place for abused children to go and be safe from the dangerous situations they find themselves in."

Organizers said they hope to raise more than $20,000 at the event.
