High Speed Chase And Standoff Ends Safely

Steubenville, Ohio —

The stand off ends safely...Now Jim Bianchini, who held authorities at bay for more than an hour, is at Trinity West Hospital.

Here's a look at the events that led to the standoff.

Jim Bianchini reported his wife, Stephanie, had been missing after she didn't show up for work Tuesday.

Her car was later found outside a convenience store with the engine running and her purse on the drivers seat.

Then this morning, police confirm to NEWS 9 Stephanie wasn't missing after all she had left her husband.

That's what started the ordeal ...

Around 7:30 Friday morning Jim Bianchini called the NEWS 9 newsroom threatening suicide...NEWS 9 immediately called authorities.

The Ohio Highway Patrol received a call shortly before 8 Friday morning from the Jefferson County 911 alerting them that Jim Bianchini was at his parents house, off of Bantam Ridge Road, threatening suicide.

When authorities arrived, Bianchini fled the scene.

Traveling at speeds of up to 65 miles an hour, police chased Bianchini from County Road 34 to Two Ridge road to State Route 43 before stopping on County Road 43.

Steubenville police department's chief negotiator, Sergeant Kenny Anderson, was called in to try to talk Binachini out of his car.

After more than hour, Bianchini is apprehended safely.

Ohio Highway Patrol Sergeant Christopher Johnson says,"He had some gasoline and lighters and was threatening to blow up the truck. It's all a family issue between his wife that led to this."

Sergeant Johnson say Bianchini was taken to Trinity West for a mental evaluation.

As far as any charges brought against Bianchini, Johnson says the case will be turned over to the prosecutor for review.
