Historic former Fort Henry Club in Wheeling to be sold, possibly renovated

By NEWS9

WHEELING, W.Va. —

The historic former Fort Henry Club in Wheeling will not be demolished as proposed by the current owners months ago.

Instead, officials with St. Matthew's Church, which owns the building, confirm that McKinley & Associates are in the process of purchasing the building.

There is still a lot of legal paperwork that has to be done, but Rev. Mark Seitz with the church said he's glad they don't have to tear the historic structure down.

"We are delighted, this is always what St. Matthew's wanted to be able to have happen … to see the building preserved and renovated and the buyer has indicated that is their intention," Seitz said.

He said McKinley & Associates have indicated the company would renovate the building for office space and possibly downtown apartments.
