Home burglary ends in arrest

By Kate Davison and  NEWS9

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio —

A home burglary ended in an arrest in Belmont County over the weekend after police say the caretaker at the home caught the burglar red-handed.

Belmont County Sheriff David Lucas said his office received a call from the caretaker of a home on Beckleigh Addition Road Saturday around 8 p.m.

"He caught someone inside the house, scared him off and was able to get a license plate and description off the car," Lucas said.

The car sped off eastbound on Interstate 70. A call was put in to central dispatch, and information was distributed to the Sheriff's Office and area police departments.

Lucas said Bridgeport police stopped the car and held the suspect until the Sheriff's Office arrived. Lucas said stolen items were discovered in the vehicle.

"Watches, jewelry, money and some prescription drugs (were stolen). I think it totaled around $1,000. All of that was recovered," Lucas said.

James Remhof, 29, of Tiltonsville gave a confession and was taken into custody. Lucas said he's facing a felony burglary charge. He’s behind bars on $15,000 bond.

“So this was just a very good police work, cooperation of police agencies working together and now another one is off the street," Lucas said.
