Homer Laughlin China Co. workers get new contract

By Briona Arradondo and  NEWS9

NEWELL, W.Va. —

A Hancock County glassware company and union workers renegotiated a contract overnight that affects more than 800 workers.

It took about 2 ½ hours for the two sides to agree on a new three-year agreement for employees at the Homer Laughlin China Co. in Newell.

The Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers International Union Local 419, along with representatives from the company, met behind closed doors to discuss contract changes.

Local 419 President Chuck Bartley said they brought up a few major issues from the previous contract.

"There was a wage increase along with some health insurance issues that were resolved," Bartley said.

He said he couldn't say much more about the specifics of the contract, but said it was a fair deal for all sides for the next three years.

Bartley said he will meet with union workers in the next week to review specifics in their contracts.
