Honeymoon Hurricane

FOLLANSBEE, WV —

It's a big welcome home for Joe and Trishann Sacripanti of Follansbee, but the newlyweds are sharing an experience like no other compliments of hurricane Wilma.

"We had six beautiful days and on our sixth night we went to dinner and had a few drinks and were saying thank god we get to leave, I feel bad for everybody but we get to get out of here. We get back to our room and they called and said your flight is canceled," Joe Sacripanti said.

And that is where the real adventure began.

Camcorder in hand, the newlyweds evacuated to a school house twelve miles inland.

Trishann Sacripanti described the following days, "We were in a room with no electricity it was pitch black and the water was gushing in, and all we could hear was the wind. You couldn't see your hand in front of your face, but all you could hear was the hurricane outside."

Safe at home Wednesday, the couple shared home movies with family.

The couple shot the video while they were in the eye of the storm, showing the destruction and their sleeping quarters which consisted of old mats and school desks.

"We slept on the concrete until it got flooded and with all the rains we had about ankle deep water for three days, " Trishann said. "We got to eat once a day, we got crackers and tuna and one bottle of water to share once a day."

The couple said the experience was an eye-opener. When they went back to their resort, their room was flooded. The couple got the last flight out of Mexico Tuesday, and they drove back to the valley Wednesday. Both say they are happy to be home.

Joe Said, "Everyone's saying it's cold, I'm like this is beautiful!"
