Household Hazardous Waste Collection Set For Saturday In Steubenville

Going Green Ohio Valley: Information from your town, green resources and more

The Jefferson-Belmont Regional Solid Waste Authority will hold its annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fort Steuben Mall across from Sears.

The collection is free and open to residents of Jefferson and Belmont Counties only. Proof of residency is required.

The following items will be accepted:

- Paint -- oil-based and latex

- Household cleaners - ammonia, bleach and cleaners used for carpets, drains, toilets, furniture and other household applications

- Lawn and garden chemicals, pesticides and herbicides

- Pool chemicals

- Aerosol cans

- Paint-related products -- solvents, strippers, turpentine

-Light bulbs, including compact fluorescents

- Batteries -- lead acid, lithium, nicad, alkaline

- Mercury and mercury debris

- Motor oil

- Antifreeze

- Propane cylinders (grill sized and smaller)

These items will not be accepted:

- Commercial or business waste, PCB oil, transformers and capacitors

- Compressed gases (other than propane)

- Explosives/ammunition

- Medical/infectious wastes

- DEA controlled substances

- Radioactive waste

- Computers

- Televisions

- Tires
