Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts continue

By Alex Koscevic

From the battered New Jersey shore to the flood waters that fill the streets of Hoboken, the devastation following Hurricane Sandy is overwhelming.

President Barack Obama joined New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie touring the devastation.

"We are here for you, and we will not forget," Obama said. "We will follow up to make sure that you get all the help that you need until you've rebuilt."

In many areas hit the hardest, city streets are still rivers, cars are useless, and boats and kayaks are the only way to get around.

"We're worried. We don't have a place to live. We're staying with friends and family. That only lasts so long. We're running out of food and everything," said Kenny Gibson of Seaside Heights, N.J.

In the mountains of West Virginia, residents confronted a different problem: feet of snow. Sandy has claimed five lives in the state. Officials said two were snow-related in Barbour County. One of the men killed was a legislative candidate.

Another death in Tucker County was the result of a woman's car colliding with a cement truck. Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin's office said they are still investigating the other two deaths.

Nationally, more than 50 people have been killed due to the storm, while many are still stranded inside their homes.
