I-470 construction project nears completion

By Kate Davison and  NEWS9

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio —

Officials in Belmont County said roadwork on one of the area's busiest stretch of highways may be complete in about two weeks.

Most of the major work on Interstate 470 has been completed in the county, and the Ohio Department of Transportation said the project has been going smooth.

Both eastbound lanes are now open to traffic. On the westbound side, all lanes are expected to also be opened Thursday.

Reflective lights are scheduled to be installed next week and crews will also be running a smoothness study along the interstate to make sure there aren't any major bumps.

In addition, a new cable guard will be repaired because parts of it were struck by vehicles several times. The barrier is meant to prevent cross-median crashes.

ODOT engineer Jim Graham said any lingering road closures will only be short-term while crews finish up minor work.
