An inmate at a minimum-security facility in Wintersville escaped briefly Friday night.

Steve Slagle, 22, went over a recreation yard fence at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center at 7:40 p.m. triggering a manhunt that included a state police helicopter.

He was arrested by Steubenville police about an hour and a half later on the Lover's Lane Connector. That's about 3.3 miles away from the facility on State Route 43.

Slagle was taken to the Jefferson County Justice Center.

He was serving time on a breaking and entering charge out of Columbiana County prior to his escape. He was in the evaluation phase of his sentence, according to administrators.

No word yet on what additional charges he will face.
