Institute issues warnings for child booster seats

By NEWS9

Safety experts issued a warning to parents on Thursday about two car booster seats.

The Insurance Institute For Highway Safety said children should avoid using the Safety First All In One and Safety First Alpha Omega Elite.

The manufacturer of the seats said the boosters have been proven to protect children in real-world crashes.

The institute said both seat can cause seat belts to work improperly.

"What boosters do is to elevate the child and they are guide for the belts, so the seat belts are positioned to provide the best protection for a child in a crash," said Anne McCartt of the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety.

The institute ranked 15 out of 17 other booster seats as "Best Bet" during its tests.
