JB Green Team officials issue warning

By Kate Davison

BELMONT COUNTY, OHIO —

Officials with the JB Green Team are sending out a warning to residents who are taking things out of recycling bins in Jefferson and Belmont counties.

NEWS9 spoke with JB Green Team executive director Jack Cera.

"It's a safety issue," Cera said.

Cera said people are often found digging through materials in these bins when the trucks come to haul them away.

“Once they're in the packer truck, we run the automatic packer and it could very easily kill them," Cera said.

He believes scrap metal like aluminum is a big cause, but he also named another, much more surprising reason.

"They could be getting aluminum. I’ve even heard that in our paper containers that they may be trying to get coupons," Cera said.

He said anyone found in one of these bins could face charges.

"We hopefully can get information and their license plates if their cars are there," Cera said.
